GREAT NEWS for first time homebuyers and current homeowners. The government has extended until the springtime the $8,000 tax credit. It is for first time homebuyers who purchase a home prior to April 30, 2010 and close the sale before June 30, 2010. Additionally for those who would not be first time homebuyers and currently own their home, there is a NEW $6,500 tax credit if you purchase another home during that same time period. The main requirement is that must have lived in your primary residence for at least 5 consecutive years out of the last 8 years. Essentially if you meet the qualifications the IRS will give you $8,000 or $6,500. Also if you use FHA financing, HUD can give you an advance against your future tax credit to put towards your down payment and closing costs.
