I live in Fairhope with my wife Katherine and our 13 “lucky” cats. We even have a black cat along with at least one of every other color. We live in a peaceful neighborhood near downtown Fairhope and love living here. Originally from Canada, my parents brought me to Mobile in 1971. It was quite a culture shock moving from the French Canadian city of Montreal to the Deep South where people spoke with a Southern drawl. I have often said that I moved from a city where I couldn’t understand most of the people to a city where I still had a hard time understanding them. But it didn’t take long to figure out that snow-less winters and sunny beaches were pretty nice. I graduated from the University of South Alabama with a Marketing degree and got my Real Estate license in 1978. I have been in Real Estate since then. I started with Century 21 Reeves Realty for 4 years, worked with Roberts Brothers for 20 years and have been with Coldwell Banker Reehl Properties since 2002. Even though I have occasionally thought about changing careers and tried day trading for awhile, I have stayed with Real Estate mostly because I enjoy the work and helping people with their Real Estate needs. | | | |
Katherine and I met in 1998. It was an exciting time and meeting her was easily one of the best things to happen to me. Katherine had been living in Birmingham when we met. She had practiced law there for 25 years and also had been a Municipal Court Judge. In 1999 we moved from Mobile to Lillian to live on the water and so she could practice with her old law partner in Orange Beach. In 2002 we had to make family decision. Where would we really like to live and work? We immediately chose Fairhope and moved shortly after that. One of the reasons for the decision was that Katherine had wanted to pursue her other love- art. Essentially, she retired from being an attorney, started taking classes and is now a full time artist. She has been very successful and sold many paintings. Her work can be found at The Lyons Share Gallery and The Eastern Shore Art Center. I couldn’t be more proud of her for the decision to change careers and for her success. She has some great work. Take a look at some of it www.KatherineFowler.com Our daughter Jami also lives in Fairhope. She is a local chef and also works part time with me. The cat family takes up a lot of time particularly for Katherine who is home in her gallery all day. Our family started with two of Katherine’s cats, went down to one and has grown to as many as 15 over the years. We have had one litter of 4 and lost 2 unfortunately, but the rest have been saved, found, rescued or they just showed up. I guess they heard we fed them well. We also enjoy the birds and squirrels at our many feeders. Every night we feed a large group of possums and raccoons at our side porch. We enjoy working in the yard and also watching movies. We have seen most of them. When I can find the time, I enjoy golfing. I also enjoy playing blues harmonica. I recently spent a weekend jamming and learning from some pros at a music camp in Clarksdale Mississippi, the home of the Delta Blues. It was quite an experience for me.
